Stroke Unit Rostock
Albrecht-Kossel-Institute for Neuroregeneration

Concept

The Department of Neurology of the University of Rostock maintains a Stroke unit with 12 beds for the treatment of acute strokes since 1998. All procedures of the modern diagnostics and therapy are available in day-long attendance. The diagnostic possibilities cover the monitoring (ECG, blood pressure and oxygen saturation), all Doppler methods (CW Doppler, Dopplersonography transkraniell pulsed, color coded duplex for extrakranielle and intrakranielle vessels), the transthoracale and transoesophageale echocardiography and the availability of a comprehensive radiological diagnostics with spiral CT, MRT and interventional angiography are approximately around the clock.

Due to the fact that the Stroke unit is spatially associated with the intensive care unit with 8 artificially respirating places, patients with acute stroks and vitally threatening clinical courses and/or artificially respirating requiringness can be further supplied at the intensive care unit.
